In this article I bring some of the essentials in my weekly supermarket shopping for food products that I usually include in my daily diet. These products can be found in practically any supermarket, however I will indicate some examples of where you can buy the products.
Eggs and Egg Whites
Something I always have in my fridge are eggs and egg whites. I always prioritize organic eggs or eggs from free-range chickens. Egg whites can be found for sale at Continente, Auchan and also at Prozis.
These are food products that I include a lot in my diet, and for that reason I always have them on my weekly shopping list.
Protein Yogurts or Beaten Fresh Cheese
I like to always have some of these options in my fridge in case I don't have time to prepare a snack or simply want to eat something fast. There are several options on the protein yogurt market, and you can see an article with my opinion on some here.
Regarding the beaten fresh cheese, I usually buy it at Lidl or Mercadona, however in case I don't go to those supermarket chains I buy Skyr from Continente or Pingo Doce.
Vegetables and Fruits
Of course vegetables and fruit is something I buy weekly, sometimes more than once a week because fortunately I have a market nearby with fresh products. For me it is something essential at home and that is never really lacking.
Rice and Pasta
I personally consume quite a bit of rice and pasta, but especially rice, since I simply LO-VE it! My favorites are Needle and Basmati, but I consume any. If you are looking for brown rice, I recommend the one from Lidl which was the one I liked the most so far.
Regarding pasta, I give preference to whole grain ones for the simple fact that they have more fiber and make me feel full for longer. There are whole grain pastas in practically any supermarket, I buy them at Mercadona, Continente and Pingo Doce.
Fish and Meat
Although I have made a reduction in meat consumption, I continue to include it in my diet weekly. For that reason every week I buy chicken steaks or minced chicken meat, meatballs and/or burgers. Another essential for me is fish, I give preference to fresh, however canned tuna is something I always have at home in case I want something quick.
Tofu and/or Seitan
Every week I try to make vegan meals, especially in my meal prep, for that reason I always have tofu or seitan at home. I like smoked tofu much more, no doubt, but that's my personal taste. You can find these products at Continente, Prozis and Pingo Doce. These are examples, you can find them in other places too, of course.
Legumes
Legumes are also a great source of vegetable protein that I love to include in my diet. I prefer to buy them dry and cook them, but I also have canned ones at home because they are indeed more convenient.
Oat flakes and other flours
I consume oat flakes or oat flour practically every day in my breakfast or snack, it is something I love and makes me feel quite full. I also usually buy whole wheat flour for my recipes and rice flour for gluten-free options.
The oat flour I use is always from Prozis, I have several flavors. Regarding flakes, you can find them in practically any supermarket chain, and the same regarding the other flours.
Plant-based Drink
Something fundamental on my shopping list are plant-based drinks without any added sugar, usually I buy oat or almond from the supermarket I'm at. Every now and then I vary and buy rice, walnut, coconut, I'm not picky, I like practically all of them.
Nothing against milk, I just prefer plant-based drinks at all levels currently.
