Fantastic recipe for your breakfasts and snacks of super EASY, healthy, protein-rich and tasty bagels. Great to eat with your fried or boiled egg, with cream cheese or even with any butter! You only need 4 ingredients, 5 if you add seeds, which are totally optional.

For the bagels you need:

  • Whipped fresh cheese or natural yogurt
  • Whole wheat flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • Baking powder
  • Seeds (optional)

How many bagels does it make?

With this recipe I made 2 large bagels, the nutritional information will be for each bagel. You can double the recipe and make 4 right away, for example.

Which fresh cheese to use? Can I substitute it for something else?

The fresh cheese I use is from Mercadona or Lidl, they are high in protein, 0% fat and low in carbs. You can substitute it for natural yogurt, Greek or skyr, unflavored, keeping in mind that the macros will change as well as possibly the consistency. A suggestion is to use the whipped fresh cheese from Aldi, it's denser and higher in protein, and thus you can use less flour in this recipe, being even more protein-rich and with fewer carbs.

Can I use another flour?

Yes, rye, oat or spelt flour will work very well in this recipe. If you don't have any of the mentioned and have oat flakes, you can blend flakes until they form flour.

  1. First step

    Preheat the oven to 185ºC (365ºF).

  2. Second step

    Mix all ingredients until you have a soft malleable dough, it sticks a bit to your hands.

  3. Third step

    Let the dough rest for 10 minutes in the refrigerator.

  4. Fourth step

    Divide the dough into two equal pieces, form a roll and join the ends to form a bagel.

  5. Fifth step

    Place the bagels on a baking tray, add the seeds on top if desired and bake for approximately 25-30 minutes.

  6. Sixth step

    Remove from the oven, let cool and eat when and how you wish.
