Yammy!!! It already smells like Christmas at my house - what about yours? For that very reason, here’s a festive and delicious recipe for you! Cinnamon rolls made entirely with whole wheat flour and without any refined sugar. Are you going to try it?
It's a really easy recipe, as you can see in the video I made! Further down, you’ll find all the adjustments you can make to suit what you have at home and your dietary preferences.
For the batter, you will need:
- Vegetable drink
- Whole wheat flour
- Coconut sugar
- Dry baker's yeast
- Olive oil
For the filling:
- Agave syrup
- Cinnamon
The rolls didn’t rise, why?
Whole wheat flour, due to its higher fiber content, interferes with gluten development, which is why the rolls don’t rise as much. An alternative, if you want them bigger and fluffier, would be to use some white flour in this recipe. Personally, I really liked them just the way they are!
Can I use another flour?
You can use fully white flour or another whole grain flour, but keep in mind that the final result might vary.
What other sweetener can I use?
Any type of sugar will work! In the case of the dough, if you use another liquid sweetener, you’ll need to adjust the amount of plant-based milk, probably reducing it. For the filling, honey, date syrup, or a granulated sweetener will also work perfectly.
Can I use coconut oil instead of olive oil?
You can use coconut oil or 100% sunflower oil; they are also great alternatives.
Can I use milk? Or water?
Milk will have the same effect, but the recipe will no longer be vegan. Water also works, although the dough may not turn out as sweet.
